Ans Maria is a second year nursing student. She is currently doing her second year of nursing in Andhra Pradesh. Her family is not financially well. Fr. Joy, who served as our vicar in Denver, Colorado, in the latter part of 2000 before returning to India, told me about this situation. The head of the family is suffering from some mental disorder and needs support on a daily basis. The housewife does some tailoring work and supports the family. She also has to support her parents who are sick and not able to do much on their own. The older of her two daughters is pursuing a degree in nursing. The younger one is a class 11 student as well.
